313	PRIESTS PLOT to KILL JESUS

1	Καὶ ἐγένετο
	ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς
	πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους,
	εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ·
2	Οἴδατε ὅτι
	μετὰ δύο ἡμέρας
	τὸ πάσχα* γίνεται,	1	Ἦν δὲ τὸ πάσχα*	28	Ἤγγιζεν δὲ
			καὶ τὰ ἄζυμα		ἡ ἑορτὴ τῶν ἀζύμων
					ἡ λεγομένη Πάσχα.*
			μετὰ δύο ἡμέρας.
	καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου
	παραδίδοται
	εἰς τὸ σταυρωθῆναι.
3	Τότε συνήχθησαν		καὶ ἐζήτουν	2	καὶ ἐζήτουν
	οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς		οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς		οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς	47	So the chief priests
	καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι		καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς		καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς		and the Pharisees
	τοῦ λαοῦ
	εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν						gathered the council,
							and said,
							"What are we to do?
							For this man
							performs many signs.
						48	If we let him go on thus,
							every one will believe in him,
							and the Romans will come
							and destroy
							both our holy place
							and our nation."
	τοῦ ἀρχιερέως					49	But one of them, Ca'iaphas,*
	τοῦ λεγομένου Καϊάφα,						who was high priest* that year,
	καὶ συνεβουλεύσαντο						said to them,
	ἵνα τὸν Ἰησοῦν		πῶς αὐτὸν		τὸ πῶς		"You know nothing at all;
	δόλῳ		ἐν δόλῳ				you do not understand
	κρατήσωσιν		κρατήσαντες
	καὶ ἀποκτείνωσιν·		ἀποκτείνωσιν,		ἀνέλωσιν αὐτόν,		that it is expedient for you
4	ἔλεγον δέ·	2	ἔλεγον γάρ·		ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ		that one man should die
	Μὴ ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ,		Μὴ ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ,				for the people,*
	ἵνα μὴ θόρυβος γένηται		μήποτε ἔσται θόρυβος				and that the whole nation
	ἐν τῷ λαῷ.		τοῦ λαοῦ.		τὸν λαόν.		should not perish." ...
						53	So from that day on
							they took counsel *
							how to put him to death.*
