** Note: The wording of Mark 9:44, 46 & 48 is identical and echoes the description of Gehenna in Isa 66:24. The first two verses are included in Codex Bezae, ancient Latin versions and most later mss. of the Byzantine recension. They are generally relegated to a footnote in most modern translations since they are not found in texts of Mark prior to 400 CE.
